WHY REAL MADRID DECIDED AGAINST 'CRAZY' OFFER FOR MAN UTD-BOUND LENY YORO

Real Madrid decided they would not be pushed into a ‘crazy offer’ for Leny Yoro, who is poised to join Manchester United.

The 18-year-old centre-half has travelled to Manchester for a medical having agreed personal terms over a €50million (£42.2m) – plus €10 in add-ons – move to Old Trafford.

The transfer represents a huge coup for United, who are now on the brink of landing one of the most highly-rated young defenders in football.

United, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain were all interested in signing the defender but Real was long thought to be his preferred destination.

United were even told Yoro would prefer a move to the Spanish capital but persevered with an official offer that was accepted by Lille last week.

The Premier League side have offered Yoro a five-year contract with the option of a further year which is reportedly worth around £7.5million annually with bonuses, translating to approximately £145,000-per-week.

United’s contract offer greatly outweighs what Real were willing to put on the table, AS report, with the Spanish champions also concerned over paying such a large transfer fee on a player who remains relatively unproven.

Real never intended to make a bid beyond the €40m mark. While Yoro is considered one of the best young defenders out there, they were not prepared to break the bank on a player who also has just one year left on his current deal in France.

Real’s highest offer for Yoro was around €20m with their preferred option to wait until next summer where they would have been able to sign the youngster on a free transfer.

Yoro is now set to become United’s second transfer of the summer following the arrival of Joshua Zirkzee last week.

United have already had two bids turned down by Everton for Branthwaite, the latest of which was £45m plus a further £5m in add-ons.

Everton are understood to value the 22-year-old at closer to £70m and are not prepared to sell for less.
