WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE CANUCKS AFTER MYERS, JOSHUA CONTRACTS?

The Vancouver Canucks made moves throughout the week, re-signing Tyler Myers to a three-year deal worth $3 million per season, as well as Dakota Joshua to a four-year contract with an AAV of $3.25 million.

Let’s not forget the team making a trade Wednesday, sending Ilya Mikheyev and his $4.75 million cap hit, along with pending UFA Sam Lafferty and a second-round pick to the Chicago Blackhawks for a fourth-round pick in 2027.

While the team cleared cap space with the Mikheyev trade, those following the club now wonder if the re-signing of both Myers and Joshua hurts the Canucks’ chances of landing a big-name free agent like Jake Guentzel.

On Friday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk are live from Las Vegas, Nev., for the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. In this segment, they discuss the Canucks’ signings through the week and if this closes the door on them adding more pieces through free agency.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Yesterday, the Canucks signed Joshua and Myers, did anything stand out to you in either of those two deals?

Frank Seravalli: The timing of it makes sense, and the AAV isn’t surprising, I think the Canucks were hoping to get Myers south of $3 million, but I tihnk that required a fourth year, and they didn’t want to stretch that far.

The only question I have is: do they have the ability to do what they want? Does this close of the idea of Nikita Zadorov? Can they still get Jake Guentzel? Does this indicate that they can’t get Guentzel? I think they had room to do Myers, but now re-adding Joshua indicates to me that Zadorov or Guentzel may not be in their plans.

I tihnk they’ll be fine and they’ll try to make it work, but they still need a backup goalie.
