OTTAWA SENATORS TRADE FORWARD MATHIEU JOSEPH, 2025 3RD TO ST. LOUIS BLUES

The Ottawa Senators have traded forward Mathieu Joseph to the St. Louis Blues, the club announced Tuesday afternoon.

Joseph, 27, racked up a career-high 35 points (11 goals, 24 assists) in 72 games with the Senators during the 2023-24 regular season. The 6’1″ left wing is under contract through 2026 at a $2.95 million annual cap hit.

After Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman first indicated on Tuesday afternoon that the Senators had started the process of trading Joseph to St. Louis, TSN’s Chris Johnston reported that the Blues had received a draft pick as compensation from the Senators for taking on the final two years of Joseph’s contract.

The Senators subsequently shared the news of the trade on their official social media channels.

The Senators originally acquired Joseph and a 2024 fourth-round pick (used to select Blake Montgomery) from the Tampa Bay Lightning back at the 2022 trade deadline in exchange for forward Nick Paul.

The Chambly, Quebec-born Joseph signed a four-year contract extension with the Senators the following summer but followed it up with the least productive season of his NHL career to date, collecting just three goals and 18 points in 56 games with the 2022-23 Senators.

The Lightning originally selected Joseph in the fourth round (No. 120 overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut with the Lightning in the 2018-19 season and subsequently helped the team win the Stanley Cup in both 2020 and 2021.

Through 360 career NHL games over six seasons split between the Lightning and Senators, Joseph has collected 55 goals and 135 points. He’s added two assists in 10 career playoff contests with Tampa Bay.

With the Senators’ 2025 third-round pick now in their possession, the Blues have five selections in next year’s draft: their own 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 6th, as well as Ottawa’s 3rd.
