COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS TRADE ALEX TEXIER TO ST. LOUIS BLUES FOR 2025 4TH

The Columbus Blue Jackets have traded center Alex Texier to the St. Louis Blues, PuckPedia reported Friday afternoon.

According to the Columbus Dispatch‘s Brian Hedger, the Blue Jackets received a 2025 fourth-round pick in return for the 6’1″, 201-pound forward.

Texier, 24, also signed a two-year contract extension with the Blues worth $2.1 million per season, according to his agent, Dan Milstein.

In 78 games with the Blue Jackets during the 2023-24 regular season, Texier collected 12 goals and 30 points. The Blue Jackets originally selected the Saint-Martin-d’Heres, France product in the second round (No. 45 overall) of the 2017 NHL Draft.

Texier is now under contract with the Blues through the end of the 2025-26 season, at which point he’ll be eligible to become a restricted free agent with arbitration rights.

Texier made his NHL debut with the Blue Jackets during the 2018-19 season and established himself as a regular in the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs, helping Columbus to a shocking sweep of the Tampa Bay Lightning in Round 1.

After spending the following three seasons with the Blue Jackets, Texier returned overseas for the 2022-23 campaign while he dealt with family issues. The French forward spent the season with Swiss club Zurich SC, allowing him to remain in game shape while being closer to home.

Texier’s contract tolled by one year while he played in Switzerland, allowing him to return to the Blue Jackets for the 2023-24 season without having to negotiate a new deal. He had been set to become a restricted free agent come July 1.

Through 201 career NHL games over parts of five seasons with the Blue Jackets, Texier has collected 34 goals and 79 points. He’s added two goals and seven points in 18 career playoff contests.

The Blue Jackets now possess nine selections in the 2025 NHL Draft: their own picks in each round, as well as St. Louis’ 4th and Vegas’ 7th.
